Charles I. Bragg

Charles I. Bragg, 89, of Dundee, retired member of the Detroit Conference, died February 18 at Herrick Hospital in Tecumseh where he had been a patient for one week. He was born February 21, 1877, in Dundee Township, the son of Levi and Carrie Deckler Bragg. On October 27, 1897, he married Edith Hindes. Mr. Bragg, at the time of his death the oldest living minister in the Detroit Conference, began his ministry in the former Methodist Protestant Church and at one time served that denomination as president of the Michigan Conference; two years as conference evangelist; and was the representative on the Commission on Union at the time of Unification in 1939. During his 60 years in the ministry he served pastorates at Attica, Imlay City, Lansing Main Street (now Christ), Goodland, Yale, Monroe, Dundee, Columbiaville, Clio, Marlette and Rea-Cone, After his retirement in 1942, he served at London, Mooreville, Wellsville and again at Rea-Cone. Mr. Bragg was a life member of Attica Lodge F & AM and Ruth Chapter OES, and a member of Dundee Lodge Knights of Pythias. He is survived by a son, Fordyce JJ. of Dundee, two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1960; and a daughter, Mrs. Theo Laskey, in 1923. Funeral services were held in the Rea Methodist Church, February 21. Officiating clergymen were Rev. Thomas Badley, Rev. Harry Coleman and Rev. Karl Keefer. Burial took place in the Ridgeway Cemetery.
