Edwin D. Dimond

Early in the morning on Sunday, December 14, 1958, E.D. Dimond died at the Kith Haven Convalescent Home, Flint, where he had lived for the last three years.

He was known as "Flint's grand old man of Methodism" and was the oldest member of the Detroit Conference, and as such was the holder of the Conference Cane.

E.D. Dimond was born in Michigan, January 12, 1862. He was the son of Henry and Caroline Dimond. He was graduated from Olivet College and received the honorary degree of Doctor of Divinity from Albion College.

Before going into the ministry, he taught school and was high school prinicipal in several Michigan cities. He was Shiawassee County Superintendent when he resigned to become a minister.

Dr. Dimond was received on trial into the Detroit Conference in 1896 and served the following churches: 1896, Goodison; 1899, Mayville; 1902, Lapeer; 1906, Flint Garland Street; 1912, Port Huron First; 1915, Detroit Simpson; 1918, Superintendent of the Flint District; 1925, Flint Central (Assoc.); 1928, Retired. In 1948, he became pastor emeritus of Flint Central.

Surviving are: daughter, Mrs. Claude H. Stevens of Birmingham; son, Dr. Edwin G. Dimond of Flint; four grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held in Flint on Wednesday, December 17, conducted by his pastor, Rev. W. Leslie Williams, Dr. Chester A. McPheeters, district superintendent, and Rev. Marshall Hoyt, retired member of the conference. Burial was at Kowtan Cemetery, near Arbella, Michigan.
