Rev. William A. Gregory

Rev. William A. Gregory, 93, holder of the Conference Cane since 1967, died July 18 in Tawas City. Born in Tavistock, England, January 31, 1878, he came to the United States in 1906. After preaching two years in Nebraska, he moved to Michigan and served churches in both conferences including Freeland; Bay City Woodside Avenue; East Tawas and Tawas City; Detroit Asbury; Cass City; Onaway; Deerfield and Petersburg; Tecumseh and Tipton; Williamston; Flushing; Milford; Lexington; Clio Wesley; Escanaba; Ludington Bethany; Plainwell; and Williamston. He retired in 1950. After preaching at Au Gres four years, he went to live in Tawas City. Mr. Gregory married the former Erna Roeser in Freeland, October 27, 1910. He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Loren Campbell of Ann Arbor; Mrs. Don Fraser of Freeland; and Mrs. William Driscoll of Manitowoc, Wisconsin; and three sons, Robin of Ann Arbor, William of Bellingham, Washington, and John of Los Angeles, California. Funeral services were held in the Tawas City United Methodist Church, Rev. Kenneth Tousley officiating. Burial was in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Freeland.
