Rev. Harley H. Harris

Rev. Harley H. Harris, retired member of the Michigan Conference, died at Clark Memorial Home in Grand Rapids, March 15, at the age of 97. He was born in Jackson County in 1866 and graduated from Eastern Michigan University. After serving as superintendent of the Elberta school for two years, he entered Albion College and later Northwestern University to prepare for the ministry. Following graduation he married Theresa Hamilton who died in 1942.

Mr. Harris served pastorates at Manton, Sherman, Kalkaska, Sheridan, Lawrence, Lowell, Middleville, Galesburg, Comstock, New Buffalo and Wayland. He retired in 1940 and built a home in Wayland where he lived for 19 years. Five years ago at the age of 93 Mr. Harris moved to Clark Memorial Home in Grand Rapids.

For eight years he has been the oldest member of the Michigan Conference and in recognition of this distinction was presented with the Conference Cane by Bishop Marshall R. Reed.

Funeral services were held in the Wayland Methodist Church March 17 with Rev. H. Forrest Crum of Wayland, Rev. Ralph M. Dean of Belding, and Rev. Keith T. Avery, superintendent of the Grand Rapids District, officiating.
